Navarra, summer of 2004. Two civil guards have been murdered in the town of Castejón. Thus begins one of the most emblematic police investigations in the Spanish crime chronicle. The bullets found at the scene of the crime point to a robber who has been looting banks with impunity for ten years. He is a mysterious character hidden behind a disguise, and they call him ‘El solitario’. Tracking him down will become an obsession for the investigators. In this crime thriller we find a multitude of plot twists and a tension that never decreases.

The journalist Carles Porta dissects one of the most mediatic cases of the Spanish crime chronicle with his usual rigour and respect, and a cinematographic visual style. The team of La caza del solitario had the opportunity to access the case file and talk to the investigators, the lawyers and the press who covered the case.

“It took us more than two years to get the main investigators in front of the camera, especially those closest to the victims, as well as the judge, the prosecutor and the lawyers”, says Carles Porta. “The archive material we have obtained is very powerful and takes you back to the moment when the crimes were committed. We wanted to show el Solitario’s personality without actually having him, because he is a ghost character. Visually, it was a great challenge because we wanted to be more daring in the filming and come closer to the cinema, but without straying far from reality”.
